7 Post Production Events for Film and TV Editors in 2022

Industry events are always a useful way to soak up knowledge about software developments, gauge from industry insiders what are the trends and predictions for content creation and distribution and also an opportune moment to network with production peers.

Here are 7 Post Production Events for any Film and TV Editor to consider attending in 2022. If you are a UK based Film and TV Editor there’s an event for you in May and if you are a US based Film and TV Editor there are a few events stateside. Amsterdam and Cologne will stage excellent events this year too.

1) Post|Production World produced by NABSHOW in Las Vegas: 21st - 27th April 2022

This year Post|Production World is an in person event.  Described as “the world’s leading training conference for production & post-production professionals, content creators, designers, TV, film & video editors, producers, directors, motion graphics & online video specialists.” Expect an updated site over the next few weeks with details of scheduled presentations and training courses. No doubt all the main software providers will showcase new products and applications .

2) The Media Production & Technology Show in London: 11th - 12th May 2022

This is the largest broadcast show in the UK that champions creativity and technology.  With a wide selection of talks from industry professionals & creatives, prepare to widen your knowledge on all aspects of broadcast technology and hear how the industry may evolve over the course of the next few years. There will be plenty on display for post production professionals and you can find out more on the Media Production Show site.

3) Il Cinema Ritrovato in Bologna: 25th June - 3rd July 2022

It is always wise to carve out time to absorb inspiration and an ideal festival that offers plenty to inspire is this jewel of a film festival in Bologna.

Il Cinema Ritrovato translates as cinema rediscovered. It is the world’s largest film festival dedicated to screening classic films, retrospectives and exhibiting the latest restored films from archives and labs across the world. Beginning in 1986 it goes from strength to strength and expect many gems to appear on the screens around the city of Bologna. A perfect summer break away from the edit suite.

4) EditFest Global - an annual two day event organised by ACE (American Cinema Editors).  Date/location tbc

In 2021 it was a virtual event that was hosted in late August.  Topics included Editing for Musicals, From Assistant to Editor: Mentoring the Next Generation. This year’s event is still tbc but keep your eyes on their site as am sure a date will be announced over the next few months.

5) IBC Show in Amsterdam: 9th - 12 September 2022

The IBC Show is a large and impressive production trade show so expect all the main post production software companies to have a presence. The site indicates that the programme this year will feature five key themes - Production & Post Production, Content Supply Chain, OTT, Direct to Consumer (Content Everywhere), Live & Remote Production and Innovation.  You can register your interest via the IBC Show site.

6) Edimotion in Germany: 14th - 17th October 2022

Edimotion is self-described as the oldest film festival in Europe that focuses exclusively on the art of film editing. Its inception was in 2001 and it now enters its 21st year.  This year it is planned to take place between 14th - 17th October 2022 in Cologne, Germany. 7) Adobe MAX 2022 : Date/location tbc

Adobe’s annual trade show for creatives was all online in 2021. In 2022, it is predicted that it will return in the autumn but as a live in person event. Even if you missed it last year, it’s still online and you can catch up on superb Q&As and presentations via their site. 7 superb post production events to tempt any Film and TV Editor away from their edit suite for a few days over the course of 2022. Expect roll outs of new equipment and updates to software and further AI integrations to assist in speeding up some of our daily tasks. My personal favourite of 2021 was Adobe Premiere Pro’s Transcriptive. Let’s see what 2022 has to offer.
